Starring Tom Everett Scott as Dr. Martin MacNeill, “The Good Father” tells the story of MacNeill and “the incredible life he led with his former beauty queen wife, Michele (Carpenter) and their eight children” , according to the Lifetime description.

It continues:

A pillar of the community, he was respected and loved by all, especially by his daughter Alexis (Anwen O’Driscoll) who adored him and even wanted to follow in his footsteps to become a doctor. But that quickly changes after Dr MacNeill convinces Michele (Charisma Carpenter) to have plastic surgery, which ultimately leads to her drowning while on prescription medication.

Just weeks after his wife’s suspicious death, Dr. MacNeill brings home Gypsy Willis, a new home “nanny” for her children, but who is actually his mistress. Shocked by her father’s actions, Alexis begins to question everything she knows about him and discovers the depth of his lies, including his fake medical references, falsified military records, and that the man and the good doctor she once worshiped was capable of murder.

The actual events occurred in April 2007. ABC News reported in 2019 that after Michele’s death, several of the MacNeill children “waged a fierce campaign” to have their mother’s death investigated, which led to “decades of secrets” and a profile essay.

Michele’s sister, Linda Cluff, told ABC News: “[Michele] was a big sister’s dream. [Michele] was popular, he was athletic, she was great in school. She also loved music and played the violin… we were all very proud of her.

“All he cared about, I mean, was his family. I mean, her family was her life, ”added Alexis, Michele’s daughter.

Another daughter, Rachel, told ABC News that her father changed at the age of 50, saying, “He started acting very weird… He became very obsessed with losing weight and how he looked. He went to tanning salons.

The family told ABC News Michele had never talked about plastic surgery before and felt their father was insisting. Then after the operation, Alexis revealed to ABC News that her mother confided in her: “She started to cry. She said, ‘If something happens to me, make sure this was not your father. ‘

“The Good Father: The Martin MacNeill Story” will premiere Saturday, October 2 at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
